It is now clear that 25 international Special Olympics programs will join the Swedish participants at the Special Olympics Sweden Invitational Games 2026 in Malmö.
– Our goal was for 15 international Special Olympics programs to want to take part in Malmö. We never could have imagined that the interest would be as great as it turned out to be! We are very happy that as many as 25 countries will come to Sweden to participate in the Special Olympics Sweden Invitational Games 2026, and we look forward to a celebration that will be felt throughout the entire country, says Linnéa Björndahl, National Director of Special Olympics Sweden.
The sporting event in Malmö will be the largest ever organized for people with intellectual disabilities in Sweden. Nearly 2,000 participants will come to compete in 11 different sports. In addition, Swedish participants will have the opportunity to meet athletes from 25 other countries, which represents a valuable exchange.
The international participants will arrive in Malmö as early as Tuesday, 2 September, to get acquainted with Malmö and Skåne. From Friday, 4 September, all Swedish participants will also be in place, and together everyone will take part in the grand opening ceremony at Folkets Park at 8:00 PM.
