Swimming

Swimming is a sport in which participants move through the water
using movements and techniques adapted to their individual abilities.

In competitive swimming, four main strokes are commonly used:
freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Swimming is a well-rounded form of exercise that develops both strength and endurance.

Prerequisites

All swimmers must be able to swim independently, without any assistance or flotation devices.

Competition

A swimmer may register for a maximum of 3 events within one category and may also participate in one relay team.

Events – Category 1:

  • 25 metres freestyle
  • 25 metres backstroke
  • 25 metres breaststroke
  • 50 metres freestyle
  • 50 metres backstroke
  • 50 metres butterfly
  • 50 metres breaststroke

Events – Category 2:

  • 100 metres backstroke
  • 100 metres breaststroke
  • 100 metres butterfly
  • 100 metres freestyle
  • 200 metres freestyle
  • 100 metres medley

Relays:

  • 4 x 50 metres medley – mixed
  • 4 x 25 metres freestyle – women/men/mixed
  • 4 x 50 metres freestyle – women/men/mixed


A swimmer may register for up to three individual events and may also be included in a relay team.

Age limit: From 13 years
